In a world where fans can get access to a lot of information with just a couple of clicks, credibility and accountability are everything.
Nonetheless, we must always take everything we read with a grain of salt, as we don't know the reality behind all reports we get our hands on.
That's especially true in the NFL, as coaches tend to hold a tight-ship when it comes to sharing their secrets or plans before a game.
If you don't take our word for it, just ask Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson.
On the latest episode of the Calm Down with Erin and Charissa podcast, Thompson admitted that she's made up reports because coaches have given her little-to-no information, or even worse, they've hit on her during an interview:
“I was like ‘oh coach what adjustments are you gonna make at halftime?’ He goes, ‘that’s a great perfume you’re wearing.’ I was like ‘oh f*ck, this isn’t gonna work.’ I’m not kidding, I made up a report,” Thompson said, as quoted by The Spun.
To our surprise, Andrews was 100% in agreement with her colleague, adding that she's also made up reports on the go because of the coaches' tight lips:
“I’ve done that too,” Andrews said. “For a coach that I didn’t wanna throw under the bus because he was telling me all the wrong stuff!”
Needless to say, that drove plenty of mixed takes on social media, with some fans urging them to out those coaches, and others questioning their integrity and credibility by making up stories.
This isn't the first time that Andrews has been on thin ice as of late.
Just a couple of weeks ago, people called her out for hugging Aaron Rodgers after he broke Brett Favre's touchdown record. Even so, she has no regrets.
“I pretty much have hugged Rodgers since I started covering the NFL. He’s been a good friend of mine for the last 15 years,” Andrews said, per the New York Post. “It was so funny because the people close to me in my life like my family or other quarterbacks I know or other players are like ‘Why is this a big deal?’"
Andrews said she's thankful for how players have opened up to her over the years and admitted to having a good relationship with several stars:
“A lot of people forget, we’re with these guys 18 weeks out of the year. We see them all the time, we’re with them during the highs and lows of their career. I’m grateful for the access they’ve given me. I’ve got to tell you, for the first time, whether you want to call Rodgers a lightning rod for his stance on COVID, I don’t want to get into that — what I’m getting involved in is sports. I was pumped he broke [Brett Favre’s Packers touchdown pass] record.“
While that's pretty valid, her comments on making up reports will most likely have serious repercussions.
