The New York Yankees brought in Joey Gallo in hopes that his powerful left bat would give their offense a much-needed boost. And while it certainly forced their rivals to make adjustments, his first full season in the Bronx has been far from a success.

A strikeout-prone hitter with little to offer besides power, Gallo has struggled mightily to begin the season. And some speculate the clock is ticking on him.

Yankees May Not Be A Good Fit For Gallo

According to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, the Yankees even reached out to the San Diego Padres to discuss a trade for Gallo:

"Gallo is yet another big talent who may not fit New York. The Yankees talked to the Padres about a trade for Gallo this spring, but are believed to have been seeking a return befitting his ability, not his recent achievements," Heyman reported. "Ultimately, a trade may work best."

Yankees Love His Defense, Though

The former Rangers star is hitting a horrid .153 this season, so it's obvious why they'd want to part ways with him. Even so, they sure like his defense, per Heyman:

"'New York is a challenge for him. It gets in his dome,' another scout said. The Yankees are all about analytics, not personalities, and nobody looks better on paper than Gallo (unless you peek at that batting average)," Heyman added. "The Yankees love his defense, baserunning and many other things. But he is hitting .121, even worse than the .150 he logged in The Bronx last year."

Gleyber Torres Could Also Be On The Move

Gallo isn't the only Yankee in jeopardy of being moved. Gleyber Torres' regression hasn't stopped since peaking in 2019 and it seems like the team is ready to give up on him already:

"Torres once looked like a budding superstar, but now appears plagued by slow legs and a slower bat. He’s going backward, and faster than Gary Sanchez ever did," Heyman added.

Will They Make Any Big Moves?

Whatever the case, the Yankees still have a chance to pull the trigger and make some big moves to revamp their roster. However, given how they approached free agency, that seems unlikely at this point:

"The Yankees’ front office, a consistent producer of winners for decades, had many chances to add weapons, but deferred at every turn," said Heyman.

Brian Cashman has been more successful with trades than in free agency so anything can happen, but we wouldn't get our hopes too high if we were Yankees fans.
