Steve Martin has become a first-time dad at the age of 67.
According to the New York Post, Martin and his wife Anne Stringfield, 41, welcomed their new addition in December.
“They’ve had a baby, and how they kept it a secret nobody knows,” a source told Page Six. “Steve’s very private.” The source added, “They are thrilled. They worked hard to have the baby.”
Martin and Stringfield, who is a writer and former staffer for The New Yorker, were married in 2007 after dating for three years. The ceremony took place at Martin’s Los Angeles home and was presided over by Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey. Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels acted as best man, and guests included Tom Hanks and Father of the Bride co-star Diane Keaton, who were told they were attending a party.
Martin was previously married to actress Victoria Tennant from 1986 until 1994.
According to the Daily Mail, it was Stringfield who encouraged Martin to write his 2007 autobiography, Born Standing Up: A Comic’s Life. In the book, he writes about his relationship with his own father, who passed away in 1997 at the age of 83.
“My father’s attitude toward my show-business accomplishments was critical. After my first appearance on Saturday Night Live … he wrote a bad review of me in the newsletter of the Newport Board of Realtors where he was president,” Martin wrote. The elder Martin also said, “I think Saturday Night Live is the most horrible thing on television,” and said his son was “no Charlie Chaplin.”
However, in 2008, Martin wrote, “In his death, my father, Glenn Vernon Martin, did something he could not do in life. He brought our family together.”
A representative for Steve Martin declined to comment, and the actor had yet to confirm the news on Twitter.
