Steve Harvey Breakdown, Tears Follow Emotional Surprise Guest [Video]
In an emotional segment on his show, Steve Harvey recently had a mini breakdown — not of the mental health type but of the “totally overcome with strong emotion” type.
Steve Harvey’s breakdown was part of a bit done on his show — and the segment either was a total surprise for Harvey, or he is a very good actor.
Harvey is riding high with TV success as well as a lucrative side career admonishing women to be more ladylike, but we’ll forgive him that because it’s immensely sweet how he reacted to a shocking reunion in front of his show’s cameras.
What happened to precipitate the teary Steve Harvey breakdown is this. Recently, the star turned 56, and his producers did some behind the scenes digging. A caller called into the show, and it was a single phrase that moved the showbiz personality to lose it. (Or … act like a lady?)
The caller says:
“I just have one question, do you still love me, baby?”
Harvey breaks down and becomes emotional (as does his buddy), later explaining the mysterious man’s identity. (He was named on the show as Rich Liss from Orlando, Florida.) The host said after the segment:
“I was 26 years old, struggling. I didn’t have nothing and these people owned a furniture store in Cleveland. They took me in and gave me a contract with my little carpet cleaning company. When I became a comedian at 27, I didn’t have money to travel. They gave me an account at their travel agency and I ran up a bill that was $11,000 just traveling and try to make it. Those people right there, they helped me out!”
Harvey and Liss express their feelings for one another, and the host admits he’s been “looking for you for years, man!”

Thank you Steve for the lesson in human nature. This is what the world is really all about, not what you read in the headlines, but what people do for each other. If we all played this forward the world would be a wonderful place for everyone, not just a few. Peace and Blessing to you. Happy Birthday too.

What a great story!

Alot of people take life way too serious, I appreciate Steve's love of life and great personality… Happy Birthday!

I agree that was totally moving but the cynical part of me says why couldn't he have found them and paid them back the $11,000 years ago? His staff managed to find the easily enough. And then he offered to fly them out to be on the show as opposed to flying them out there as close friends to see him. Just very Hollywood.

He's crying cause he got caught and now has to pay back the $11,000 plus interest.
Jan 23, 2013
Okay I guess I have become too much of a cynic. Harvey said he had been looking for them for years….I googled their names and tracked them and the three furniture companies they own down in less than a minute. I even learned of their corporate structure.
Jan 23, 2013
Ummm… if this guy meant so much to Mr Harvey, why did he have to be "looking for you for years, man"? You'd think they would stay in contact with each other.
Oh wait, Steve owed the guy money…
Jan 23, 2013
Good to see Steve being nice to a white guy. He's not a nice man.
Jan 23, 2013
he owed these people $11,000 for more than twenty years, and he's been a millionaire for more than ten years.
that's deadbeat.
crying because he got called out.

that's deadbeat.
crying because his black ass got called out on national tv.
blacks don't pay for their illegits, their debts, their housing, food, nothing…

You are insensitive and don't get it. Grow up.

Jan 23, 2013
Really?! You don't believe that yourself. You just don't have anything nice to say then, don't say nothing.
Jan 23, 2013
How would you know if Steve was a nice man or not? What does color have to do with it? Obviously, it's something to you and not to them. Wow!!
Jan 23, 2013
Yea, right.
Jan 23, 2013
Tonita Boatner You are boorish and have no idea who I am. Shut up.
Jan 23, 2013
I do not think he still owed them the money. Once you are a grown up, Andy, you will understand that years can fly by and it is very easy to lose contact with people over the years as you go thru your own struggles. You think of finding them over the years, but often do not realize the impact you also had on them until the years go by and you see them. I have experienced this myself and it is emotionally overwhelming….so yea…grow up!

Why make such a blanket statement? Stop, breathe, and most of all think. Does a single, innappropriate or distasteful action made by you characterize you and everyone who looks like you? I think not! When you share what is on your mind, you actually share the absence or presence of intelligence, character, and common sense.
Jan 23, 2013
That's what separates the men form the boys. Everyone cries sometimes.
Jan 23, 2013
Happy Bithday Steve.
Jan 23, 2013
I have met him and you're right it doesn't have to do with color.
Jan 23, 2013
With all due respect David, did it occur to you that these shows are edited segments? Oftentimes these wonderful, humble, generous beings who have been instrumental in the lives of those we see as "public figures" today (e.g. Steve Harvey, Oprah, etc) usually reunite and become an integral part of these famous people's lives. Everything can't be said in three minutes. Happy Birthday Steve!
Jan 23, 2013
sounds like maybe he needs to pay his bill. or did he forget their address? glad they got back together. he probably did pay them back long ago, just lost track in the ensuing years.
Jan 23, 2013
Why can't we ever be happy for anyone? You people need to learn how to be optimists. I guarantee they won't be sorry Steve sent for them. Everything doesn't have to be spelled out on TV for nosy people like some of you. I know you wish at this point you were a long lost friend of Steve Harvey. Find some of your own friends and see what they do for you.
Jan 23, 2013
Happy birthday Steve Harvey.
Jan 23, 2013
I am glad I read this story….almost passed it up because I thought Steve had a breakdown….and am tired of that type of news…..fine story……..fantastic people, there are some. Steve Harvey is lucky and appears to know and respect that.
Jan 23, 2013
I wonder if he broke down when he allegedly abuse his ex wife.
Jan 23, 2013
"I've been looking for you for years"… what a fuckin joke. In this day of social media and the Internet, Steve Harvey couldn't track down these people who helped him? How about using your millions to hire a private eye to track down your long lost friends? Then to offer to fly them out to the show because you've been busted in front of your studio audience? What a slap in the face…. I guarantee you that someone working on that show lost their job over this.

I watched the clip several times and it seems that there is no place where he says he never paid them back. He may very well have and still recalls the kindness when he was poor and had no way to pay the money back.
He may be looking to give them something additional, but I am really, really saddened to see people assume he never paid the money back when he never says that at all. He says "I got money now," but that could just mean he wants to treat them.

Why are people so darn mean spirited? This was a real moment between 2 real MEN and obviously Steve told his staff about them because the staff located them and had them live on the show to wish him a happy birthday. The staff wouldn't let any joe blow on the air for that moment so they had to be well informed before the decision to bring them on air. Some of you saying Steve didn't pay them back like you know what he did and maybe they didn't even ask for the money back, this guy is obviously well off and seemed genuinely happy to be a part of Steve's day and overall success. I swear comments really let you know just how many mean people are still out here in this world and truth be told you are all just a bunch of unhappy, depressed crabs who hate to see others happy and successful. My gosh counting another man's money and wondering if someone was paid back lol it wasn't your money so STFU.
