AuthenTec iPhone 6 Fingerprint Detection And Apple Release Date Rumors

AuthenTec iPhone 6 fingerprint detection is at the heart of new Apple iPhone rumors. Blogger Ed Valdez cites six reasons why we can expect an iPhone 6 announcement by June 2013.  Some analysts and observers are predicting that that the Apple iPhone 5S or 6 release date could be as early as summer 2013, although some say September of 2013 is more likely.

Many Apple fans have been disappointed with the lack of any major innovation in the iPhone 5. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, the Apple iPhone 6 rumors have fans excited since some say we might expect an integrated Mac OS X along with pico projectors for a new display type. But according to Huffington Post, a more solid Apple rumor says there will be iPhone 6 fingerprint detection:

“Respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities — who has perhaps the best track record of any Apple analyst, pundit or soothsayer working today — is out with his predictions for the year in Apple devices. The juiciest tidbit from the report, first published by MacRumors? That Apple is preparing to install a hardware fingerprint sensor on the next iPhone, perhaps integrated with the home button, to differentiate its new phone from growing competition.”

This iPhone 6 fingerprint detection rumor is lended major credence by the fact that Apple recently acquired a company called AuthenTec for $356 million. According to Forbes, AuthenTec provides “mobile security software licenses and fingerprint sensor technology to companies that included Alcatel-Lucent (ALU), Cisco (CSCO), Dell (DELL), Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard (HPQ), Lenovo(LNVGY), LG, Motorola (GOOG), Nokia, Orange SA, Samsung, and Texas Instruments (TXN). AuthenTec’s fingerprint technology was also used in Japan for the authentication of mobile payments made with mobile phones.”

After the Apple acquisition, AuthenTec has already informed several customers that it would cease to offer its technology to those companies in 2013. Thus, any future iPhone 6 fingerprint detection would include an advanced “Smart Sensor” component that does more than just read fingerprints. AuthenTec developed “anti-spoofing technology” that “dynamically measures the properties of finger skin placed on the sensor while the finger is being scanned. This patented technology ensures that only real fingerprints are read by converting the properties of the skin into digital data which are delivered to the host computer for analysis. AuthenTec anti-spoofing technology then compares the data with expected properties to ensure fingerprint authentication.”
