Al Roker’s Weight Loss The Reason He Pooped His Pants At White House, Expert Confirms
Al Roker’s weight loss explains why the famous NBC weatherman pooped his pants at the White House, a Chicago surgeon says.
Roker revealed earlier this month that he pooped his pants while on a visit to the White House a while back, and he suspected that his 2002 gastric bypass surgery had something to do with it.
Al Roker explained to Dateline:
“When you have a bypass and your bowels [have] been reconstructed, you think you’re pretty safe. And I probably went off and ate something I wasn’t supposed to. And as I’m walking to the press room. I gotta pass a little gas here. I’m walking by myself. Who’s gonna know? Only a little something extra came out. I pooped my pants. Not horribly, but enough that I knew.”
Dr. Bipan Chand, director Loyola Center for Metabolic Surgery and Bariatric Care, who was not involved in Roker’s surgery, confirmed what the NBC television personality believed. Al Roker’s weight loss led to a phenomenon known as “dumping.”
“One might be a gastrointestinal process that includes consumption of a high sugar load that leads to intestinal influx of fluid,” Chand said in a statement. “This can lead to diarrhea as well as vomiting and can occur in many post-Roux-en-Y gastric bypass patients but does not occur in all of them.”
Chand said it wasn’t necessarily Al Roker’s weight loss that caused the dumping episode, UPI reported. Dumping can also occur from an “overestimation of the amount of insulin the body needs to process the same sugar load will not lead to intestinal symptoms but to rapid fluctuations in blood sugar,” he said.

Yuk, Yuk-bypass is not a good thing, my daughters friend had this operation and pooped her pants at work-she had a large brown spot as well as bad stink.

As a gastric by-pass patient myself, I can attest to his problem. A small bite of something with sugar in it-like a vanilla iced coffee at McD's that was supposed to 'SUGAR FREE'–can cause a "sugar dump". AND YOU CAN NOT STOP IT!

Don't think he had a choice. Evidently someone heard or saw and was going to go public which then forced Al into telling of the incident. I haven't had the bypass surgery but have the dumping syndrome. I cannot begin to tell of the embarrassment and fear I live with everytime I eat anything. Will I have an "accident"? I don't want to go anywhere after eating or do allot of walking. I know he will have this constant fear now and I wish him well. Sadly there are many of us with this problem that would love a cure.

I have news for everyone.Dumping can happen to anyone who has had gastricbypass surgery.My husband had it 3 yrs ago.He learned right away why he should avoid some sweets.Sorry Al that people are so heartless.

I have a friend with the same problem. For years she has had to avoid eating out because of it.
