Details from Vice President Joe Biden’s gun control proposal are beginning to emerge. Biden met with gun control advocates, gun rights groups, and representatives from the entertainment realm last week. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, the vice president stated that President Barack Obama can issue a gun control executive order to mandate the new recommendations.
Joe Biden’s gun control measures include 19 steps that President Obama can initiate via an executive order, according to CNN. Democratic Representative and gun violence task force member Mike Thompson had this to say about the details of Biden’s proposal:
“We met with the vice president yesterday and the vice president said we need a comprehensive package to put an end or help put an end to the gun violence. Congress is going to be important. It’s going to be a cooperative effort with the two branches of government.”
When discussing the measures President Obama had the power to initiate immediately, Thompson included the appointment of a director for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The agency has been without a permanent leader in that position for the past six years. Acting director B. Todd Jones is pulling double duty in the post; he is also the US attorney in Minnesota.
The gun violence task force member also stated that the president could demand that federal agencies provide information for background checks that accompany gun purchases. Thompson feels that such a move would make the gun buying reviews as “comprehensive and complete” as possible.
A ban on high-capacity magazine clips for semi-automatic weapons was noted as example of a gun control mandate which the task force felt would attract support from Republicans. Democrats claim that President Obama will not “step out of bounds” when using the power of his pen to sign executive orders, according to Newser.
Do you think that any laws which impact the Second Amendment should go through the Congress?

You don't need a gun that shoots 100 bullets one right after the other to hunt legal game or to protect yourself. I am all for resposible gun ownership but also support a ban on semi-automatic guns and high-capacity magazine clips.
So you are not a supporter of the 2nd amendment?
You obviously do not understand the spirit and intent of the original penning of the 2nd Amendment. Yes, at the time it was written to say that individuals had the right to a musket / flintlock rifle because that was what the government had at the time. Now, the government has much more pewerful weapons than the average gun owner, even those with semi auto "nasty looking black rifles" that only mimic military grade arms.
In addition, the 2nd Amendment was not written for "hunters", nor was it written only for those wishing to protect life and limb from home home invasion by unsavory criminal intruders. It was written to protect individual civilians from governmental tyranny and so, it is not the governments job to tell me, or anyone else, what caliber, magazine size, style, color etc. that I can own as long as I purchase it and operate it under responsible & reasonable legal conditions. I do not own a "black rifle", or any rifle or high cap magazine for that matter, but I want the right to own what I feel may be used against me if I choose or deem it necessary and as conditions merit that decision. If you don't feel the same, that's OK – DONT BUY ONE THEN! But keep your hands and opinions to yourself and out of my business as a responsible, tax paying, productive, home owning citizen.
The 2nd amendment wasn't written to allow us to hunt or shoot for sport. It was to maintain the balance of power, to keep the power with the people allowing us to protect the nation from tyrannical government. The 2nd amendment was written to protect the Constitution.
Hey heather, do you hunt? If not stop assuming what we need or dont need. You cant take down a 900 bear or moose with one shot genius.
You don't NEED a lot of things but I have the right to own it. You don't need a 100 in" LED tv but you have a right to own it. The need is not what the 2nd was written for it just plainly states you have the right to own and bear arms so you have go back to owning a black powder rife or a bow or you can own a semi auto Barret 50 cal it's your right and in no way should be restricted by what someone thinks we need. If someone is talking in the movies and you feel like they don't need to talk right now you can't just take away the 1st because it annoys you believe in all the amendments and support the roots of them if you don't like it fine but if you believe they should mess with one what will stop them later for the others
Heather let me say first off…I would tear that ass up…;)…with that said is America really about "NEED"? Do you need a car that goes 75 MPH over the sped limit? Do you need a phone that text messages people from your car? Do you need alcohol? Do you need tobacco? These are all killers but we do nothing about them! What are our goals with gun control? Well I assume it is to save lives right? If we really wanted to do that we would outlaw all of the above. Alcohal kills many many times more then an assault rifles. Did you know that assault rifles only amount to about 5% of gun deaths in America? So if you ban 100% of them you most likely will not even notice a difference in gun deaths. These are facts not my opinion. Taken from the CC website.
You also don't need 100 bullets at once to take down a bear. Genius.
John Spencer You know nothing of what I know. Starting your comment like that made me stop reading at "You obviously do not understand…" blah blah blah. Learn how to present a legitimate argument.
the 2nd amendement and gun ownership isnt about hunting, for years guns grabbers have been talking this nonsense about the right of hunters . bla bla bla. the 2nd amendment is about the right of every american to keep and bear arms for DEFENSE.FURTHERMORE, NO ONE IS ADVOCATING THE SALE OF 100 BULLET DRUM MAGAZINES THAT ARE USED FOR MACHINE GUNS WHICH ARE ALREADY BANNED UNDER FEDERAL LAW. 30 BULLET CLIPS ARE USED FOR RIFLES.
Heather, would you mind answering a question for me? (I don't want you to get offended and stop reading)
Do you, or do you not, understand that the 2nd amendment was specifically written to give Americans the power to OVERTHROW THE GOVERNMENT? The founders had literally ZERO interest in preserving the "right to hunt". They knew full well that some day a TYRANT would come to power and We The People would need the means to remove him/her from power…
I don't know about you, but I've been to war…when you going into battle, 100 round drums are not only warranted, but even they are often TOO SMALL
John spencer said nothing about what you know. He stated that you do not understand. You could "know" something, yet not understand.
And you have yet to answer my question.
Executive orders were never intended, or should, have any authority outside the Executive Branch of government. This means that any executive order that affects anything outside of the Executive Branch (the White House, Military, etc.) would be illegal from the start. The entire Constitution/ Bill of Rights would be legally out of the reach of an executive order. The constitution is nearly impossible to amend for a reason. Our founding fathers knew that eventually a tyrannical dictator type would come along and try to take rights from the people, that is why we have the form of government we have; that is the whole reasoning behind a REPUBLICAN form of government with a constitution. I get sick of people calling the USA a democracy. Study the real history of the USA, not what is in the current text books, but the TRUTH. Our founders were aware of the dangers of a democracy because they had seen what results from it. That is why they formed a REPUBLICAN form of government, not a democratic form of government that is so mistakenly substituted (out of ignorance most of the time) for republican form in conversation about the United States Government. The Federal government is OUT OF CONTROL and must be reigned in. We have to take a stand against the Federal Government while we still have rights to do so.
A Lesson to be Learned on the Anniversary of Wounded Knee.
December 29, 2012 marked the 122nd Anniversary of the murder of 297 Sioux Indians at Wounded Knee Creek on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. These 297 people, in their winter camp, were murdered by federal agents and members of the 7th Cavalry who had come to confiscate their firearms “for their own safety and protection”. The slaughter began AFTER the majority of the Sioux had peacefully turned in their firearms. When the final round had flown, of the 297 dead or dying, two thirds (200) were women and children.
Around 40 members of the 7th Cavalry were killed, over half cut down by friendly fire from the Hotchkiss guns of their overzealous comrades-in-arms. Twenty members of the 7th Cavalry were deemed “National Heroes” and awarded the Medal of Honor for their acts of cowardice.
We do not hear of Wounded Knee today. It is not mentioned in our history classes or books. What little does exist about Wounded Knee is normally the sanitized “Official Government Explanation” or the historically and factually inaccurate depictions of the events leading up to the massacre on the movie screen.
Wounded Knee was among the first federally backed gun confiscation attempts in United States history. It ended in the senseless murder of 297 people.
Before you jump on the emotionally charged bandwagon for gun-control, take a moment to reflect on the real purpose of the Second Amendment- The right of the people to take up arms in defense of themselves, their families, and property in the face of invading armies or an oppressive government. The argument that the Second Amendment only applies to hunting and target shooting is asinine. When the United States Constitution was drafted “hunting” was an everyday chore carried out by men and women to put meat on the table each night, and “target shooting” was an unheard of concept, musket balls were a precious commodity in the wilds of early America, and were certainly not wasted “target shooting”. The Second Amendment was written by people who fled oppressive and tyrannical regimes in Europe, and refers to the right of American citizens to be armed for defense purposes should such tyranny rise in the United States.
As time goes on the average citizen in the United States continues to lose personal freedom or “liberty”. Far too many times unjust bills are passed and signed into law under the guise of “for your safety” or “for protection”. The Patriot Act signed into law by G.W. Bush, then expanded and continued by Barack Obama is just one of many examples of American citizens being stripped of their rights and privacy for “safety”. Now, the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is on the table, and will, most likely be taken away for “our safety”.
Before any American citizen blindly accepts whatever new firearms legislation that is about to be doled out, they should stop and think about something for just one minute-
Evil does exist in our world. It always has and always will. Throughout history evil people have committed evil acts. In the Bible one of the first stories is that of Cain killing Abel. We cannot legislate “evil” into extinction. Good people will abide by the law, defective people will always find a way around it.
And another thought. Evil exists all around us, but looking back at the historical record of the past 200 years across the globe, where is “evil” and “malevolence” most often found? In the hands of those with the power- governments. That greatest human tragedies on record and the largest loss of innocent human life can be attributed to governments. Who do governments target? “Scapegoats” and “enemies” within their own borders…but only after they have been disarmed to the point where they are no longer a threat. Ask any Native American, and they will tell you it was inferior technology and lack of arms that contributed to their demise. Ask any Armenian why it was so easy for the Turks to exterminate millions of them, and they will answer “We were disarmed before it happened”. Ask any Jew what Hitler’s first step prior to the mass murders of the Holocaust was- confiscation of firearms from the people.
Wounded Knee is the prime example of why the Second Amendment exists, and why we shouldn’t be in such a hurry to surrender our Right to Bear Arms. Without the Second Amendment we have no right to defend ourselves and our families.
noone needs a drum mag. huge waste of expensive ammo, and extremely heavy. However drum mags are not illegal (yet) and if someone wants to own one atleast until they are banned then thats his business. I think they are useless in hunting, but semi auto is almost a must with some large game.
AMEN!
Evil does NOT and NEVER will abide by EO's and laws..
