Newtown, CT – American Family Association spokesman Brian Fischer dedicated an hour of his radio program this morning to talking about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Among the highlights: God did not intervene in the tragedy because “God is not going to go where he is not wanted,” and if the school really wanted to protect their students, they should have allowed prayer in the school.
Fischer started by saying that the question “where was God?” would inevitably come up regarding the tragedy, nay, abomination that occurred in a Fairfield County elementary school this morning. It’s a good question, and it’s one that people of all walks of life are likely asking right now.
The danger here is that Fischer attempted to answer the question himself, painting a picture of a smug and jealous God who is perfectly willing to let children die to prove a point rather than the loving and merciful one preached by many more, shall we say, tactful Judeo-Christian adherents.
According to Fischer, God did not intervene because he’s upset that we’ve kicked him out of our schools. Further, God would be perfectly willing to protect us and offer his grace and love should we simply invite the Ten Commandments back into our courthouses. Because God is a “gentleman,” he is “not going to go where he is not wanted,” Fischer said.
Whether or not today is the day to politicize the Connecticut Elementary School Massacre isn’t the point. Some of us may hope that the tragedy pulls us together, even though it will likely drive us apart (as politicization is apt to do), but when there are 18 children dead, maybe there’s really nothing to say at all.
And maybe Mr. Fischer should have thought of that before signing on this morning.
Watch for yourself:

I hope something terrible happens to this guy so he can see that bad things happen even to the holiest of the holy
Or the holier than thou…
One mentally disturbed person causes a massacre; another makes statements like this. I take that back; it's an insult to the mentally challenged. Fischer is a nut case. Hope when he meets God, she shows more compassion on him than he's showed by these statements.
One mentally challenged person does something unspeakable; another makes statements like these. Wait – that's an insult to the mentally challenged. Fischer is a nut case. When he meets God, I hope she shows more compassion on him than he's shown by his words.
SICK
Prayer is allowed in school. No one can stop you from praying whilst in school. Religious freedom and all. It's just that we don't have whole classroom prayers because not all students pray to the same god or at all, and it'd be disrespectful to them to make them pray to a god they didn't believe in. However, any person can freely pray as they wish, and if a teacher gets upset then it's not within their right to stop someone from praying since it's part of one's religious right.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Hell, most schools are very accommodating when it comes to prayer and the individual student…This man is sick.
Shame on you Fisher, you just proved yourself to be the biggest asshole alive.
Teachers not only fill student's heads with knowledge, they also have the opportunity to teach kids how to live, perhaps even more so than parents who are increasingly busy and unavailable in today's society.
The point is, God has been removed from the public sector of our society as a whole. Listen to what he said. At this point in time his emphasis is on prayer in school, but his over arching point is that prayer has been removed from our world (our society). We no longer invite God into our country. It's interesting that some will talk about the rights of non-believers to not be subjected to prayers to God (the Trinity), but will jump all over removing 2nd amendment rights to bare arms. One group must have their rights removed to accommodate the so called rights of other. I find that thought process rather intriguing.
That reminds me of a parody of a Chick tract that I saw in which Jack Chick is standing before God who says, "I have half a mind to create a hell, just so I can throw your ass in it."
Blind just like Huckabee, who said a similar comment later in the day. It's a PUBLIC school. Get over it.
Reply to Derrick Black: You are SO right! Growing up, I had many health and social problems at school, and evry single class period, I began with a prayer. No one knew but God, Jesus, and my parents. What's going on now is that Christain conservatives and many others are rightly concerned about the lack of basic values like personal responsibility, courtesy, honesty, hard work, patience, and SELF-CONTROL being taught in our public schools. Without these basic values, kids grow up to be irresponsible, selfish, often destructive jerks. But then again, I've met PLENTY of conservative Christian, Muslim, etc, jerks, too! My second point here is that human behavior is complex, hard to understand. But we DO need to return to teaching basic moral, ethical values and good citizenship.
Reply to myself & Derrick Black: Today's Christian conservatives are SO bitterly angry and frustrated! And they feel fearful that their CULTURE is under attack by a determined opposition, the progressive left. So, the Right is reacting like any other imperiled culture backed into a corner: they are fighting back tooth and claw. This is identity psychology!
Here's America's problem: We have TWO fundamentally different, diametrically opposed (polarized) cultural categories forced to try to live within ONE society, and it isn't working out! Remember the Civil War? The 1960's? So many other examples of the schism over the individual's relationship with the government. Bottom line? We cannot successfully continue as one society, anymore.
Is this the "god" everybody prays to, a god that supposedly let kids die just to prove a point? This is ridiculous. Get over it ladies and gentlement, we evolved.
what do you think of the you-tube video entitled " sandy hook shooting – fully exposed". If this is true on any level it is very troubling…
i am very concerned about this you tube video….sandy hook shooting fully exposed…
It is poorly supported conjecture that has no basis in reality. It does not stand up to criticism.
